CHICAGO - The DePaul women’s soccer team closes the 2006 season with a pair of BIG EAST matches on the road. The Blue Demons take on Georgetown on Friday afternoon before concluding the weekend with a Sunday afternoon match at Villanova.
Noting the Blue Demons: The 1-1 tie against Seton Hall on Oct. 8 ended a season-high seven-match losing streak... the six goals scored in two games against Southeast Missouri State and Northern Illinois were the most in back-to-back games since seven goals in Oct. 2004… the Blue Demons posted a 3-0 win over TCU on Oct. 17 and a 4-0 victory against Cleveland State on Oct. 22… the seven-game losing streak was the longest since a nine-game slide during the 2001 season... Cara LaRocca’s 119 saves this season (16 matches) surpassed her career total entering this season (61 saves/18 matches)… LaRocca’s 12 saves at Drake on Sept. 3 were a career best passing her previous high of 11 stops against Northwestern at the start of this season... she has totaled at least seven stops in 11 of the 16 matches this season... Lauren Spacht’s goal at Northern Illinois on Sept. 10 moved her into sole possession of second all-time with 15 career goals… at Eastern Illinois on Sept. 1, she moved into second all-time with her 38th career point... Spacht has totaled 41 points on 15 goals and 11 assists in her career... Julianne Sitch (2002-05) leads all career categories with 90 points on 32 goals and 26 assists... Alissa VonderHaar’s two-goal game against Southeast Missouri State was the second of her career... it was also the first by a DePaul player this season... Jennifer Dyer scored goals in each of DePaul’s first two matches... she added her third goal of the season against Cincinnati and is now tied for seventh all-time in DePaul with nine career goals... Lea Hill, VonderHaar and Dyer lead the club with three assists each... Hill is now tied for fourth in school history with nine career helpers... the 2006 season is the 11th year of women’s soccer as a varsity sport at DePaul University... the Blue Demons are 19-12-2 in the last four seasons in matches at Wish Field.
Scouting Georgetown: The Hoyas stand at 4-8-5 overall and 1-6-2 in BIG EAST play... Georgeotwn tied Pittsburgh last Friday before falling to West Virginia on Sunday... Chrissy Skogen leads the team with 12 points on six goals while Karen Waskewich has seven points on five assists and a goal... head coach Dave Nolan is in his third season with the Hoyas. The Series: Friday is the second meeting between the two programs.... DePaul claimed a 4-2 decision at Wish Field in the first meeting last season.
Checking on Villanova: The Wildcats host Notre Dame on Friday afternoon... they enter Friday’s action at 14-1-2 overall and 6-1-2 in league play... Villanova lost, 1-0, in double overtime to West Virginia before defeated Pittsburgh, 2-0, last weekend... Nikki Mabery has 11 goals and three assists for 25 points this season... as a team, the Huskies have scored 29 goals while allowing just three scores... head coach Ann Clifton is in her 10th season at Villanova. The Series: Sunday is the second all-time game between the Blue Demons and Wildcats... Villanova knocked off DePaul, 2-1, in Chicago last season.
New Addition: Former DePaul softball player Sara Bandauski recently joined the women’s soccer program as a goalkeeper. In four seasons on the diamond she played in 219 games with the softball team totaling a career .216 batting average with 46 runs, 29 RBI’s and eight doubles.
2006 BIG EAST Championship: The semifinals and championship of the 2006 BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship will take place in Storrs, Conn., on the campus of the University of Connecticut. The first round and quarterfinals matches will be hosted by the higher-seeded team beginning on Oct. 25. The champion receives the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship.
