DePaul Earns Bid to BIG EAST Conference Tournament
Oct. 21, 2012 2012 BIG EAST Conference Tournament Bracket PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following Saturday’s regular season finales, the BIG EAST Conference announced the 10-team field for the women’s soccer tournament. DePaul, an at-large seed, earned the final bid to the league’s postseason and is set to travel to No. 4 seed Villanova on Thursday for a 1 p.m. CT matchup. With Connecticut’s double-overtime win over Providence on Saturday night, the Blue Demons secured their place in the playoffs. After missing the league tournament last season, DePaul (8-9-2, 3-6-1 BIG EAST) makes its return to the postseason in the BIG EAST Championships opener. The Blue Demons faced off against Villanova on Friday, Oct. 7 and earned a 0-0 double-overtime draw with the Wildcats. Should the squads go scoreless again, however, the match will be decided in penalty kicks. The winner of Thursday’s matchup faces a tough test in the BIG EAST Second Round on Sunday, Oct. 28. Either DePaul or Villanova would next travel to No. 1 seed Georgetown for the quarterfinals—set for noon CT in Washington, D.C. In the National Division, Georgetown earned the top seed, followed by Notre Dame (No. 2), Louisville (No. 3), Villanova (No. 4), Rutgers (at-large), and DePaul (at-large). In the American Division, Marquette took the No. 1 seed, followed by USF (No. 2), Syracuse (No. 3), and Connecticut (No. 4).
