Women's Soccer Closes Season At Marquette
The DePaul women's soccer team will close the 2000 schedule at Marquette on Friday night. The Blue Demons will tangle with the Golden Eagles at 8:15 p.m. in Milwaukee. Going into the season finale, DePaul is 3-13 overall and 2-8 in the conference. Marquette clinched the Conference USA regular-season championship last week and will be the top seed in next week's league tournament in St. Louis. The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series, 4-0.
THE BLUE DEMONS DePaul enters Friday's match having lost seven straight matches. Prior to that streak, the Blue Demons had won three of five games. Last weekend, they traveled to Tulane and Southern Miss for a pair of league matches. On Oct. 20, the Blue Demons fell, 2-0 to the Green Wave and lost, 4-0, two days later at Southern Miss. Offensively, Jeannette Croce leads DePaul with seven points. She has tallied three goals and an assist this year and will finish her career as DePaul's all-time leading scorer. Over her four-year career, Croce has scored 14 goals and tallied 35 points. Courtney Hannel, Tammy Howe and Autumn Laidler have scored two goals each this season while Christy Young leads the club with three assists. THE GOLDEN EAGLES Marquette holds a 15-2-1 overall record this season and a 9-0-1 conference record. They are the second-ranked team in the Great Lakes Region and No. 21 in country by the NSCAA. Last weekend, they defeated Southern Miss, 5-1, and Tulane, 1-0.
The Golden Eagles sport six players with at least four goals this season led by Kate Gordon with nine scores. Stephanie Welch is tops on the team with 11 assists.
