Nordness Earns All-BIG EAST Nod
Nov. 1, 2012 HARTFORD, Conn. – One day before the BIG EAST Conference Tournament semifinals are set to commence, the league announced the 2012 BIG EAST women’s soccer postseason honors as voting on by BIG EAST coaches. After anchoring a strong Blue Demon backline, DePaul junior defender Kylie Nordness earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Third Team. Nordness is DePaul’s lone representative from a defensive corps that posted nine shutouts and allowed one goal or fewer in 16 of its 21 matches. It is the second straight season a Blue Demon earned a spot on the third team after Morgan Celaya picked up the honor last season. The junior’s vigilance and endurance allowed her to start all 21 matches for the Blue Demons in the 2012 season. Her resilience was evident in the fact that she did not miss a single minute of BIG EAST play, a league schedule that resulted in four overtime contests. Following the announcement of the awards, DePaul head coach Erin Chastain praised her junior center-back. “Kylie had an outstanding season for our team and is very deserving of this honor,” she noted.“I would put Kylie up against any player in the country and am so excited to watch her continue to excel in our program.” On a backline that included sophomores Sarah Gorden and Rachel Pitman along with graduating senior Ren Stoecklin, DePaul was a force on defense, allowing just 0.86 goals per game.
“We praised our defending all year,” Chastain continued. “And although I am disappointed that a couple of our other defenders weren't also recognized along with Kylie, I couldn't be more proud of her." Earlier this season, Nordness picked up a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll for her strong defensive efforts against Saint Louis and Pittsburgh. Georgetown sophomore Daphne Corboz earned the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year honors, Ally Miller of Marquette was named Defensive Player of the Year, Louisville’s Charlyn Corral was named Midfielder of the Year, Brittany Anghel from Syracuse earned recognition as the league’s top goal, and Cari Roccaro of Notre Dame earned Rookie of the Year honors. Georgetown’s Dave Nolan was named BIG EAST Coach of the Year while his squad earned the Team Fair Play Award. Complete BIG EAST Conference Release 2012 BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Major Award Winners |
