HOUSTON - The struggle continued for DePaul's softball team on Saturday morning.

Errors and a lack of timely hitting contributed to the Blue Demons' 4-1 loss to Illinois at the Hilton Houston Plaza Invite.

It was DePaul's third loss in a row after opening the season winning four of its first five games.

Trailing 4-0, DePaul (4-4) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning after Paige Peterson's two-out triple to right field and Samantha Dodd's RBI single.

Illinois (4-4) scored twice in the top of the second on two singles, two stolen bases, a walk, an error and a passed ball. Allie Bauch (single) and Jenna Mychko (single, RBI) scored for the early 2-0 lead.

An inning later, a bases-loaded error with two outs gave the Illini two more runs as Kylie Johnson (single) and Jess Perkins (fielder's choice) crossed the plate.

The Blue Demons had the bases loaded with two out in the top of the first after a Samantha Dodd bunt single and walks to Verdun and Mary Connolly.

But Staci Bonezek grounded back to the pitcher to end the threat. They loaded the bases again in the third with two out before Kali Gardner went down swinging.

DePaul looks to get back on the winning track with a 3 p.m. game Saturday against the host Houston Cougars.

NOTES: Megan Coronado led the team with a .500 batting average going into Saturday and was moved up into the No. 3 spot in DePaul's batting order against Illinois, but went 0-for-3... Hannah Penna made her second start of the season and gave up one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk... Dodd was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Peterson 1-for-3 with a run scored... Allie Braden had the fourth Blue Demon hit.
