CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Blue Demon bat attack was in full force on Saturday.

Led by Bree Brown's dominance in the pitching circle and batter's box, DePaul battered Winthrop 10-0 in a game shortened to six innings by the eight-run rule.

It was the second time in the last three games the Blue Demons have ended early. In their opener at the NFCA Leadoff Classic just 24 hours earlier, they beat Massachusetts 8-0 in a five-inning game.

Brown pitched a one-hitter as she improved to 3-0 on the season. On offense, the junior from Texas was 3-for-4 with five RBIs as DePaul racked up a season-high 17 hits.

Talk about helping your own cause, Brown had a two-run single in the second inning bringing home Katelyn Braget and Megan Coronado and an RBI single in the third that scored Coronado again. Allie Braden's sacrifice fly RBI made it 4-0 after three innings as Braget scored once more.

An inning later, Coronado drove a double to right field as Brittany Boesel and Samantha Dodd crossed home plate. An Ali Warren single, Mary Connolly double and intentional walk to Coronado loaded the bases in the sixth. Brown's two, out, two-run double to right highlighted a four-run outburst that resulted in the run-rule.

On the season, Brown is now 3-0 with a 1.30 earned-run average. Opponents are batting just .191 against her.

The Blue Demons returned to the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex for a Saturday evening game against Mississippi State.
