FULLERTON, Calif. - Mary Connolly and Kirsten Verdun combined for a three-hit shutout as DePaul softball beat Canisius 1-0 on day two at the Titan Classic on Saturday.

The Blue Demons (15-6) bounced back after dropping a pair of games last night and won via the shutout for the sixth time this season. Canisius dropped its third straight at the tournament and fell to 3-11 overall.

DePaul got six hits from its offense, including a second consecutive 2-for-3 effort by Ali Lenti. Verdun, Connolly, Dylan Christensen and Nicole Pihl also added hits.

In the circle, Connolly went five scoreless innings and allowed just two hits to pick up the win and improve to 2-2. Verdun came on to pitch the final two innings, surrendering just one hit and striking out one to earn her third save of the season.

Christensen scored the game's lone run in the fifth, coming around on a Canisius error to give Verdun and Connolly all the support they would need.

DePaul returns to action at 7:00 p.m. CT in its final game of the weekend, taking on hosting Cal State Fullerton and looking for a weekend split at Anderson Field.

Notes: DePaul improves to 4-1 in one-run games and 2-3 when scoring one run... the Blue Demons shut out their sixth opponent of the season...
