Softball Falls to Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – DePaul softball fell 8-0 in six innings to Northwestern on Wednesday evening at Sharon J. Drysdale Field.

The Wildcats held DePaul (22-17) to just three hits in the game with Micah Fitzgerald, Nicole Pihl and Brianna Viles recording the stat.

The Blue Demons utilized three pitchers in the defeat with Kayla Landwehrmier taking the loss. She pitched for two innings, striking out one and allowing two earned runs on two hits.

Kaley Winegarner earned the win for Northwestern (17-23).

After a scoreless first inning, Northwestern tallied two runs in the bottom of the second off of Landwehrmier.

Kennedy Garcia replaced Landwehrmier in the circle to start the third inning where the Wildcats notched an additional run off the junior transfer pitcher. Sabrina Rabin led off the inning with a single and went on to score after a Blue Demon fielding error.

Northwestern etched its fourth run in the fifth inning off of Krista Dalgarn.

For the Blue Demons, Pihl led off with a single in the top of the sixth. She was replaced with pinch runner Ana Greik who went on to steal second with two outs, but a ground out followed to end a scoring threat.

Northwestern tallied five runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

Dalgarn finished the game with one strikeout and five earned runs on six hits.

Garcia allowed two hits, a run and struck out one.

Up next, DePaul heads to Washington, D.C. for a three-game series at Georgetown. The two BIG EAST teams begin the action on Saturday, April 22 with an 11 a.m. doubleheader and wrap up on Sunday, April 23 with another 11 a.m. CT start.
