Roberson Drafted by the Harlem Diamonds



CHICAGO - The Harlem Diamonds, a newly-formed professional softball team that will begin play in June 2005, drafted DePaul infielder Saskia Roberson with the fifth overall pick in their 2005 draft of college seniors.

 

Roberson a two-time All-American led the 2004 Blue Demons with a .393 batting average, the 47th best average in the country.  She ranked 19th in the nation in 2004 averaging 0.89 RBI per game and 55 RBI on the season.  Roberson tallied 18 doubles and 13 homeruns for a team best .684 slugging percentage.  

 

Roberson and the Blue Demons kick off the 2005 season this weekend at the Clearwater Invitational.  DePaul will face Tennessee and Garner-Webb on Friday, February 4th at 1:30 and 4:00 p.m. (CST) respectively.

 

The Harlem Diamonds will begin play on June 10, 2005 and will perform nearly 60 games as fundraising events for community youth and social service organizations. Student-Athletes do not enter their name for this draft and maintain collegiate eligibility.
