Softball Tops No. 7 LSU
The Blue Demons topped Baylor for the second time in the tournament despite the Bears out-hitting DePaul 8-3.
DePaul gained their first run in the top of the first inning. Liz Bouck walked, advanced to third on an error and sacrifice bunt and was sent home as Gina Ramacci grounded out to Baylor’s shortstop.
Baylor answered back in the second inning with a home run by Sarah Caudle but it wasn’t enough to send the Bears into a run.
By the sixth inning, the Blue Demons had increased the lead by two when a single by Katy Kukman sent in two runners, Sarah Martz and Liz Bouck.
Martz notched a win as she pitched 5 1/3 innings while Lindsay Chouinard came in for the save, handling the last 1 2/3 innings with ease.

The Blue Demons started the game off strong. Liz Bouck and Sarah Martz put themselves on base with two bunts in a row. Then Ramacci advanced to first on a fielder’s choice. The game jumped to 2-0 when Sarah Douglas doubled to left center sending in Ramacci and Martz.

The Blue Demons continued to hold off the Tigers for the rest of the game, largely in part to Chouinard’s five strikeouts in seven innings. Chouinard was two outs away from pitching a perfect game when Sara Fitzgerald singled up the middle in the bottom of the seventh.
The Blue Demons face Baylor again tomorrow for the third time at and will not play the championship game regardless of the outcome due to travel arrangements.
