Softball Splits First Day of Stanford Invite
STANFORD, Calf. - The DePaul softball team went 1-1 in the opening day of the Stanford Invitational to improve to 4-3 on the season. The Blue Demons fell to
The Blue Demons scored all three of their runs in the third inning against
Sophomore Megan Huitink came in game with two outs in seventh inning to relieve sophomore Tracie Adix. Adix gave up one run on five hits in 6.2 innings. Huitink’s first batter Lauren Johnson sent a two-run home run over the fence to tie the ball game at 3-3.
Meredith Cervanka (3-1) recorded the win for
DePaul’s bats were hot in the second game of the day. DePaul recorded two runs in the second and added another three in the third, to down Cal Poly 5-1.
The Blue Demons first run of the game came from junior Sara Bandauski, who singled to score sophomore Katie Sheaks who singled to start with second inning. Bandauski crossed the plate on a Kenney sacrifice fly to center.
Roberson started the third inning with a single down the left field line and scored the first of three third inning runs on a Sheaks single. Parker doubled to center to score Sheaks and sophomore Linda Secka scored on a Cal Poly error.
Huitink (1-3) recorded her first win in a Blue Demon uniform, giving up one run on three hits.
The Blue Demons return to action tomorrow morning, facing San Diego State at 11:00 a.m. (CST) and tournament host No. 10 Stanford at 3:00 p.m. (Click her for a link to radio).
