Softball Falls to Kentucky
All-American Saskia Roberson recorded her second home run of the season Sunday afternoon at the Stanford Invitational; however it was not enough as the Blue Demons fell to Kentucky 2-1 in the final game of the invitational.
STANFORD, Calif.- The DePaul softball team fell to Kentucky, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Stanford Invitational. The Blue Demons fell to 4-6 on the season while Kentucky improved to 1-9.
Senior All-American Saskia Roberson sent a ball over the center field fence in the first inning to put the Blue Demons up 1-0.
Kentucky’s first batter, Jessica Nance tripled to start the bottom of the first and two batters later, Meghan Cooper singled to right field. Senior right fielder Ashley Parker fielded Cooper’s ball cleanly and fired a rocket to DePaul catcher Kara Amundson to get Nance out at the plate to end the inning.
The Blue Demons and Wildcats played a tight game through bottom of the seventh. With a runner on second, Kentucky capitalized on DePaul error to score the winning run.
The Blue Demons will return to action February 25 in Athens, Georgia. DePaul will play North Carolina in the opening game of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Lead-off Classic. The game is scheduled to begin at (CST).
