Blue Demons Power Past Florida Gulf Coast

FORT MEYERS, Fla. Jackie Tarulli-Fisher’s grand slam in the fourth inning propelled the No. 13/13 DePaul softball team past Florida Gulf Coast 12-4 in six innings on Friday at the FGCU Spring Break Invitational.

The Blue Demons (6-1) used 13 hits in their second win of the day.  Amber Patton and Tarulli-Fisher both went 3-for-4, while Annie Demas and Shea Warren each recorded two RBI.

Florida Gulf Coast (8-4) struck first and tagged DePaul starter Lindsey Dean for three runs in the first and added one in the second for a 4-0 lead heading into the third.

Demas put the Blue Demons on the board with her first home run of the season, a two run blast over the right field wall. Three batters later and with the bases juiced, Warren connected a two-RBI double to centerfield.  The Blue Demons continued to get on base and with the bases packed Tarulli-Fisher’s grand slam gave DePaul an 8-4 lead.

The Blue Demons added two more runs in the fifth.  DePaul capitalized on a pair FGCU fielding errors and with a runner on, Patton knocked her second triple of the season to give the Blue Demons a 10-4 advantage.

Brittney Yniguez and Katelyn Braget each tallied a RBI in the sixth frame to close out the 12-4 win.

Dean (3-0) tossed a complete game for DePaul.  She struck out five and walked one, while all four FGCU runs were earned.

Cassidy Rash (1-1) suffered the loss for Florida Gulf Coast.

The Blue Demons return to the field tomorrow and take on Michigan State at 2 p.m. and FGCU at 4 p.m
