Softball Sweeps Doublheader in Vegas
Las Vegas, Nev.—The 15th-ranked DePaul softball team defeated 12th-ranked Pacific 2-0 and defeated host UNLV 3-2 on the opening day of the UNLV Mini Tournament.
UNLV held a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth after scoring two runs in the top half when Shavaughne Desecki pounded a leadoff single. After a Sarah Douglas walk, Gina Ramacci tripled to right center scoring scoring both runners. Ashley Parker pinch ran for Ramacci and scored the winning run on a UNLV error.
Douglas finished the day 2-for-2 at the plate scoring the tying run while Ramacci went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
April Valdez (2-0) pitched six innings without allowing an earned run to pick-up the victory. Lindsay Chouinard pitched a perfect seventh to pick up her first save of the season.
In the tournament opener, Chouinard threw a no-hitter as the Blue Demons shutout Pacific 2-0. DePaul scored single runs in the first and fourth giving Chouinard all the support she needed.
The Blue Demons sit at 6-1 on the season and are in action at 10:00 a.m. against Pacific and 3:00 p.m. against UNLV on Sunday on the final day of the UNLV Mini Tournament.
