Braden Selected for BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll
Feb. 25, 2013
CHICAGO – Allie Braden’s clutch hitting over the weekend earned the DePaul second baseman a place on the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll Monday.
Braden came through with a two-run, bases-loaded single in the top of the seventh inning at last Saturday’s NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla. that gave the Blue Demons a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over UCF.
The Knights had taken a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth.
Braden’s timely hit would launch DePaul (8-7) onto a three-game winning streak with a subsequent 6-5 comeback win over Pacific followed by a 4-3 triumph over No. 15/15 Michigan.
Braden led the Blue Demons to a 4-1 record at the Leadoff Classic and was named to the all-tournament team along with pitcher Kirsten Verdun.
In the five Leadoff Classic games, Braden was 6-for-15 (.400) with three RBIs and three runs scored. The Blue Demon junior had at least one hit in every game and was 2-for-3 with a run scored in a victory over Fordham.
This marks the second time in three weeks that DePaul has been recognized by the BIG EAST. After the first week of the season, Verdun was selected as BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week. Braden and the Blue Demons will look to extend their winning streak Friday when they face New Mexico State at the Eller Media Stadium Classic in Las Vegas.
