Final Day of NFCA Leadoff Classic Cancelled
COLUMBUS, Ga. -- The final day of the 2009 NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic has been rained out, the NFCA announced on Sunday morning. The Blue Demons take a week off before traveling the Fullerton, Calif. for the Judy Garmen Classic, Mar. 12-15. The Blue Demons went 0-2 at the Classic. DePaul fell to Penn State 4-1 on Friday and dropped a 2-0 game to UMass on Saturday. DePaul’s games with Georgia, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU and Nebraska were cancelled due to unplayable field conditions and rain. The final two rounds of games on Friday and the entire Saturday schedule were cancelled, and roughly half of the 21 teams in the tournament traveled home mid-day on Saturday. The remaining 11 teams completed a modified schedule of six games on Saturday night before additional overnight rains rendered the outfields on all fields unplayable. Over three inches of rain fell in the Columbus area which prompted the tournament cancellation.
