CHICAGO – The BIG EAST Conference Softball weekly awards were twice as nice for DePaul on Monday.

That’s because both Allie Braden and Kirsten Verdun were selected for the BIG EAST Honor Roll after their standout performances over the weekend.

This is the second week in a row that Braden has been named to the Honor Roll. Verdun was chosen BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 11.

The pair of juniors led the Blue Demons to a 4-1 record at the Eller Media Stadium Classic in Las Vegas with victories over New Mexico State, Weber State, host team UNLV and Cal State Northridge.

Braden ignited the DePaul attack from her leadoff spot in the batting order. The lefty-hitting shortstop went 10-for-17 for a .588 batting average with a home run, a triple, two doubles, three RBIs and eight runs scored.

Braden’s potent bat was a big reason why DePaul (12-8) outscored its Classic opponents 30-9. In a 6-1 win over New Mexico State, Braden was 3-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored. She also had two hits against UNLV and a pair of hits in both games versus Cal State Northridge.

The productive weekend raised Braden’s batting average from .268 to .362, and she now leads the team in doubles with five and runs with 18. Braden and Verdun are tied for the team lead in hits at 21.

Verdun went 3-0 in Las Vegas and gave up one earned run to New Mexico State and one earned run to Cal State Northridge. The left-hander from Coal City near Joliet had a 0.67 earned-run average at the Eller Media Stadium Classic with 16 strikeouts and four walks. She allowed 11 hits in 21 innings.

Verdun improved to 8-4 on the season and lowered her ERA from 2.33 to 1.87.
