Amber Patton Named to the Lowe's Senior CLASS Candidate List

CHICAGO For the third year in a row a senior DePaul softball player has been named to the Lowe’s Senior CLASS candidate list.  Blue Demon All-American third baseman Amber Patton joins 30 senior softball student-athletes who excel not only on the playing field but also in the classroom and in their community.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages those leaders to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact.

Patton , who leads the Blue Demons (9-4) with a .500 average and 24 hits this season, represented DePaul at BIG EAST Student-Athlete Advisory Council as well as NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Conference.  An active member of DePaul’s Captains Council, Patton has volunteered to make lunches for the homeless as well as raised money for breast cancer research.

The list of 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. The ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans. The award winner will be announced and recognized at the 2009 NCAA Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.

DePaul's Sandy Vojik and Kate Sheaks were also named to the candidate list and later finalists in 2008 and 2007, respectivley.

The Blue Demons return to the field at the Judy Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif. Mar. 12-15.  DePaul takes on Fullerton, Oklahoma, Arizona State, New Mexico and Fresno State during the four-day tournament.
