PROVIDENCE, R.I. DePaul senior rightfielder Sandy Vojik has been named the BIG EAST Conference softball Player of the Week. Notre Dame junior righthanded pitcher Brittney Bargar has earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
Vojik was named to the Bingham Toyota All-Tournament team on March 9 after registering a .318 batting average and four RBI. The senior rightfielder hit her second home run of the season and put the squad ahead for good in the Blue Demon’s 5-3 win over No. 14/15 Houston on March 9. Vojik’s RBI-triple in a 3-2 victory over Cal-Poly on March 9 tied the game at two. She went on to score the game-winning run. She had a hit in each of DPU’s games which stretches her hitting streak to seven games.
This is Vojik’s first weekly conference award. She was named a preseason All-American by ESPN.com and is one of the 30 finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS award.
Bargar earns her first Pitcher of the Week honor this season following 25.1 innings of work at the Long Beach State Invitational March 7-9, where she posted a 0.55 ERA. The junior righthanded pitcher fanned 21 batters and issued only three walks while giving up two earned runs.
DePaul sophomore pitcher Becca Heteniak joined Vojik on the league’s weekly honor roll. Heteniak picked up two win last week and struck out 21 while holding batters to a .105 average.
The Blue Demons take a week off before returning to the diamond March 20-22 at the Judi Garman Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton. DePaul takes on Arizona, Utah, San Diego St. UNLV and Washington during the three-day tournament.
