CHICAGO - For the third time this season, DePaul's Kirsten Verdun has been singled out for a BIG EAST Conference accolade.

Verdun was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday after helping lead the Blue Demons to the Saluki Invitational title over the weekend in Downstate Carbondale.

The freshman left-hander won the inaugural BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week award on Feb. 21 after leading DePaul to the USF Tournament title in Clearwater, Fla.

She was selected for the league's Honor Roll on March 7 after sparking the Blue Demons to the Wolf Pack Classic title in Reno, Nev.

At Carbondale, Verdun was 2-0 with one save and a 0.98 earned-run average. She had 13 strikeouts in 14 innings and opponents hit .160 against her.

Verdun tossed a three-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory over preseason Missouri Valley Conference favorite Southern Illinois and beat Illinois-Chicago 3-2.

In the batter's box, Verdun hit .400 at the Saluki Invitational and scored one run.

During DePaul's current eight-game winning streak that dates back to Feb. 20, Verdun is 5-0 and has two saves with a 1.22 ERA. She has 25 strikeouts in 34.1 innings and opponents have hit just .165 against her.

The 2010 Illinois high school Player of the Year has also been an offensive force in the last eight games, batting .400 with two home runs and seven RBIs.

On the season, Verdun is 8-1 with a 1.43 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 68.1 innings. She has held the opposition to a .179 batting average.

On offense, the hard-hitting rookie is batting .326 and leads the team in home runs (four), RBIs (12) and walks (17) while her 10 runs is second to Alex Morocco's 11.

Verdun and her teammates face a big challenge beginning Thursday when they take on No. 10/9 Oklahoma at the prestigious Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif.

The Blue Demons will also encounter No. 12/13 Texas and No. 4/4 Arizona at the Classic along with New Mexico and Long Beach State, which---like DePaul---is receiving votes in the national polls.
