No. 7/8 Arizona Powers Past No. 14/18 DePaul
FULLERTON, CA No. 7/8 Arizona used four home runs to power past No. 14/18 DePaul 11-0, Thursday at the Judi Garman Classic at the Anderson Family Field. The Wildcats improve to 19-6, while the Blue Demons’ four-game winning streak is halted and they fall to 17-7. After playing through four scoreless innings, Arizona broke through in the top of the fifth. The Wildcats used three home runs, a single and a pair of walks to plate five runs in the inning. Callista Balko and Jenae Leles each knocked solo shots, while Brittany Lastrapes recorded a three-run home run. The Wildcats added five more runs in seventh. After a bases loaded error plated the sixth run of the ballgame, Laine Roth smashed a grand slam to give Arizona a 10-0 advantage. The Wildcats scored their final run of the game when pinch hitter Cyndi Duran was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Taryne Mowatt earned the complete game shut out and improves to 9-5. She allowed just two hits, struck out nine and walked three. Becca Heteniak suffered the loss and threw six innings, while Lindsey Dean entered the game in the sixth for an inning of work. Heteniak (8-4) gave up nine hits, walked four and struck out two. Dean faced four batters and retired three, one reached on a Blue Demon fielding error. Sandy Vojik and Amber Patton each registered a hit in the loss. The duo improve their respective hitting streaks to eight games. The Blue Demons return to the diamond this evening and take on Utah at 8 p.m. (CST), live stats will be available for the game.
