Softball Splits with UAB

BIRMINGHAM, AL --  The DePaul softball team split a doubleheader with UAB on Friday afternoon at the George Ward Park.  The Blue Demons (12-10, 4-1 C-USA) took the first game, 1-0 in the ninth inning and dropped the nightcap, 2-0.

The Blue Demons and Blazers (15-20, 2-3 C-USA) remained scoreless into the ninth inning.  With one out and two runners on, freshman Sandy Vojik singled to left field to score Sara Bandauski from third base. Bandauski got on base on a fielders choice.

Sophomore pitcher Tracie Adix threw all nine innings, giving up only four hits and struck out six Blazer batters. Adix improved to 8-3 on the season and is a perfect 3-0 in league play.

In the nightcap, the Blue Demons dropped a 2-0 decision.  The second game, much like the first, remained scoreless late into the game, with UAB posting the only two runs of game in the sixth inning.

Sophomore pitcher Megan Huitink (4-8) recorded the loss, giving up only two hits and struck out seven UAB batters.  The Blazers pitcher, Jennifer Nelson, recorded the win, and improved to 6-4 on the season.

The Blue Demons will be back in action Saturday afternoon to close out the series with UAB.  The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at Noon.
