Blue Demons Host Valparaiso on Thursday
CHICAGO -- The No. 18/25 DePaul softball team welcomes Valparaiso for a doubleheader on Thursday. The first pitch of the twinbill is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Cacciatore Stadium. DePaul (20-10) played its first 28 games on the road before opening in Lincoln Park on Sunday, March 30. The Blue Demons split a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader with Notre Dame over the weekend, winning the first game 2-1, but were shutout in the second game 2-0. Junior Jackie Tarulli-Fisher knocked the game-winning RBI in the seventh against the Irish. Tarulli-Fisher leads the Blue Demons with four home runs and 16 RBI. The junior catcher is sixth on the team with a .250 average, while junior infielder Amber Patton leads the squad with a .356 average and 32 hits. The pitching trio of All-American Becca Heteniak, Lauren Frankiewicz and Lindsey Dean keep opposing batters on their heels, as they are holding their opponents to a .201 batting average and have collected 174 strike outs on the season. Heteniak (10-5) leads the trio with a 1.62 ERA and has thrown a team-high 91.0 innings. The Blue Demons hold a 41-0-1 all-time record over the Crusaders. Valparaiso (17-9) is led by Ashley Wolter, who is batting a team-best .347 with 17 RBI and a .547 slugging percentage. Following Thursday’s doubleheader, DePaul hits the road this weekend for a pair of BIG EAST doubleheaders. The Blue Demons square off with Seton Hall on Saturday at 11 a.m. (CST) and Sunday’s twinbill with St. John’s is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
