Blue Demons Roll Past Villanova



CHICAGO   The No. 22/25 DePaul softball used a six-run, sixth inning to defeat Villanova 8-0 in BIG EAST Conference Softball action, Saturday at Cacciatore Stadium. The Blue Demons improve to 25-12 and 4-3 in league play, while the Wildcats fall to 14-15-1, and 3-6 in the conference.

DePaul starter Becca Heteniak threw her fifth shutout of the season to propel the Blue Demons to victory.  Heteniak (13-5) struck out 10 and allowed just three-hits in her 13th consecutive BIG EAST regular season victory.

The Blue Demons posted the first runs of the ballgame in the fourth inning on Jackie Tarulli-Fisher’s double to deep center field.  Tarulli-Fisher’s ball scored pinch runner Sean Plese and Sandy Vojik.

DePaul held onto its 2-0 advantage until the Blue Demon bats kicked into high-gear tallying six runs on four hits.  After batting around the order, pinch hitter Tara Voss came to the plate and looped a bases loaded, two-RBI single to right field to end the game.

Tarulli-Fisher led the Blue Demons with a 2-for-2 effort and had three RBI.  Pinch hitter Lauren Frankiewicz also tallied a pair of RBI in the win.

Lauren Determan suffered the loss and threw five innings before being replaced by Megan Hord in the sixth.  Determan (6-6) scattered three hits and struck out three. Hord was charged with all six runs.

The Blue Demons and Wildcats finish the doubleheader later this afternoon.
