Blue Demons Dominate Louisville
Louisville, Ky.--Lindsay Chouinard threw her second no-hitter of the season and April Valdez allowed one earned run in seven innings leading the 16th-ranked DePaul softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Louisville. The Blue Demons won the opener 7-0 and dropped the Cardinals 7-3 in game two.
The Blue Demons took the lead in the first inning in game one when Sarah Martz doubled and scored on a Gina Ramacci single. Christina Douglas brought Ramacci home with an RBI-single making the score 2-0.
DePaul added three in the third blowing the game open. Saskia Roberson led off with a single and Molly Sircher came in to pinch run. After moving to second on a ground out, she came around to score on a Cardinal error. The Blue Demons added another run on a U of L error and Martz completed the scoring bringing home Liz Bouck with a triple.
Ramacci’s two-run homer, her second of the season, in the sixth capped the scoring and the Blue Demons moved their Conference USA winning steak to eight games.
Chouinard (14-3) finished the game striking out seven and walking one. She faced one batter over the minimum throwing her seventh shutout of the season.
Ramacci finished the game 2-for-4 driving in three runs and scoring a pair. Martz finished 2-for-2 with a run scored and RBI and Bouck stole two bases.
In game two, Bouck reached on an error to open the game. She came home on Ramacci’s sacrifice fly after advancing to third on Martz’s sacrifice bunt.
Katy Kukman opened the second with a single and moved to second when Roberson reached on an error. Bouck reached on a fielder’s choice while Kukman came home on a Cardinal throwing error. Martz again delivered with a single bringing home Roberson and Bouck moving the score to 4-0.
DePaul finished its scoring in the third when Sarah Douglas drilled her second home run of the season, a solo shot to left field. Kukman followed with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. She would score on Jenny Doezie’s base hit. Bouck’s single drove in Doezie and gave the Demons a 7-0 lead.
The Cardinals scored one in the third and two in the seventh, but it was not enough as DePaul completed the sweep.
Valdez improves to 5-2 after striking out four and walking one in her fourth complete game of the season.
11 Blue Demons pounded out hits with Christina Douglas and Ashley Parker leading the way with two hits apiece. Sarah Douglas finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored and Martz drove in two runs.
The Blue Demons are 26-7 overall and 11-1 in C-USA. They close out the series Sunday at noon before coming home to face Northwestern Wednesday.
