Tarulli-Fisher's Grand Slam Sinks ISU in Game One
CHICAGO Down 1-0, Jackie Tarulli-Fisher’s grand slam in the bottom of the seventh with two outs gave No. 20/20 DePaul a 4-1, game one victory over Illinois State Wednesday at Cacciatore Stadium. Heading into the bottom of the seventh Illinois State’s Abby Olsen’s home run in the top of the second was the only run of the game. Following Olsen’s home run DePaul starter Lauren Frankiewicz and ISU hurler Amber Smith engaged in a pitcher’s duel as the two teams combined for just eight hits. Frankiewicz (5-1) earned the win in the circle for the Blue Demons (26-9). The senior allowed just three hits while she struck out nine and walked four in her second complete game of the season. Smith (6-9) suffered the loss for Illinois State (18-19). Smith struck out two, while the Blue Demons scattered five hits and took advantage of five walks. Tarulli-Fisher’s grand slam was set-up by Katelyn Braget’s pinch hit leadoff double, while Amber Patton and Sean Plese both walked to juice the bases. Tarulli-Fisher’s long ball was her ninth of the season while she has 38 RBI. Patton showed why she is one of the most feared batters in the country as she improved her batting average to .513 with a 2-for-2 effort. She received intentional walks in the fifth and then again in the seventh with runners in scoring position. The Blue Demons and Redbirds complete their doubleheader this afternoon.
