Zoch Named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week

NEW YORK – For the second time this season, DePaul softball’s Missy Zoch was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week, as announced by league officials on Monday. Jessica Cothern was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Zoch registered a 0.49 ERA in four appearances in the circle last week against Illinois State and Providence. She registered 16 strikeouts, all in the Providence series.

Zoch notched two wins in the circle, one in the first game against the Friars and the second in the final game against the fellow BIG EAST team.

In the first game against Providence, Zoch pitched for five innings and allowed just one hit. She struck out eight in DePaul’s (22-16, 7-4 BIG EAST) 8-0 six inning victory.

Zoch pitched a complete game in the Blue Demons final action against the Friars. She allowed four hits and one earned run (one unearned) in the 7-2 victory. She notched six strikeouts, including three in a row in the opening inning.

Zoch allowed just five hits over the course of 14.1 innings.

Cothern recorded a .429 batting average, going 6-for-14 at the plate in the four games. She tallied a run in each outing. In the first game against Providence, Cothern notched two hits, a run, RBI and stole a base.

DePaul returns to action for a midweek game at Northwestern on Wednesday, April 19 at 4 p.m.

Following, the Blue Demons head to Washington, D.C. for a three-game series at Georgetown April 22-23. The series kicks-off with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 22 with an 11 a.m. CT start and wraps up with another 11 a.m. first pitch on Sunday.
