OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – DePaul softball is dancing for the 18th time in program history. After clinching its second BIG EAST Championship crown yesterday, the Blue Demons learned they will travel to Lexington, Ky. to compete in a regional field that includes James Madison, Ohio and hosting 14-seed Kentucky. Games will take place from May 16-18 at John Cropp Stadium.

DePaul (41-9) will face James Madison (44-13) in its first game, meeting the Dukes at 4:00 p.m. CT on Friday, May 16. The Blue Demons are one of 64 teams to earn an NCAA Tournament bid, including 32 at-large and 32 automatic qualifiers, with teams playing at 16 different regional sites.

The Blue Demons have some history with their first opponent already this season, having faced James Madison on February 23 in Clearwater, Fla., falling in a tight 3-1 game at the NFCA Leadoff Classic.

The four-team, double-elimination tournament will send its winner to one of eight Super Regionals, May 22-25, in hopes of advancing to the Women’s College World Series. The final round of the tournament occurs May 29-June 4 in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Regionals and Super Regionals are played at campus sites.

Three of the four teams in the Lexington Regional secured automatic bids to the tournament. DePaul earned its auto bid with a 3-0 win over St. John’s on Saturday in the BIG EAST Championship. Kentucky (44-15) received an at-large bid after falling to Georgia in the SEC Championship game. Winners of the MAC Tournament, Ohio is 32-24 while JMU enters the NCAA's at 44-13 following its CAA Tournament crown.

The BIG EAST regular-season and tournament champs, DePaul is making its 18th appearance in the tournament and first since 2012. The Blue Demons have advanced to the Women's College World Series four times in program history and are 42-35 all-time in tournament play.
