Softball Drops Opening Game at College World Series

OKLAHOMA CITY, -- No. 1 Michigan blanked DePaul 3-0 in game three of the Women’s College World Series at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Wolverines scored a pair of first-inning runs that would hold up as starter Jennie Ritter limited the Blue Demons to just three hits, while striking out 12.
The Wolverines (61-5) took advantage of a Blue Demon error to strike first, posting two runs (one unearned) in the opening frame. DePaul starter Tracie Adix gave up two hits to right field and on the second single, Alessandra Giampaolo and Jessie Merchant crossed the plate.
Sophomore catcher Kara Amundson ignited the Blue Demon (45-20) bats in the top of the third. With one out, the sophomore singled to right center and sophomore short stop Jessica Evans placed the ball in the exact spot to put two runners on the base path. Senior right fielder Ashley laid down a perfect bunt three feet in front of the plate to freeze the defense to load the bases. The Blue Demons left the bases juiced, as the final batter, sophomore Sandy Vojik was struck out by Ritter.
The Wolverines added another run in bottom of the fourth on Tiffany Hass’ sacrifice fly to center field to extend their lead to 3-0.
Adix (24-9) threw three and one thirds inning, and gave up four hits. Sophomore Megan Huitink threw the final two and two thirds innings, giving up one
