CHICAGO - DePaul's softball team received some good news on Monday when Morgan Greenwood was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I Softball Team selected by CoSIDA.

The junior from southwest suburban Shorewood was selected to the Academic All-America Third Team as a designated player after helping lead the Blue Demons to the BIG EAST regular-season and tournament titles and their 20th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Greenwood was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection after batting .308 in conference action with three home runs and 10 RBIs.

Overall this spring, Greenwood started in all 52 games and finished with a .300 batting average, 13 doubles, six home runs and 29 RBIs.

She is majoring in Health Sciences and carries a 3.78 grade-point average.

Greenwood is the second DePaul student-athlete to be named Academic All-America. Last December, women's soccer standout Elizabeth Endy was Co-SIDA Academic All-America Second Team.

Headlining the Academic All-America softball team is Florida junior pitcher Kelly Barnhill who was the recipient of the Academic All-America of the Year award for Division I softball. Barnhill is one of four finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Year award and sports a 3.92 GPA majoring in Public Relations.

No less than 29 of the 33 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I Softball Team have at least a 3.90 GPA with 19 student-athletes maintaining a 4.00 GPA (or better) as either undergraduate or graduate students. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.97.
