Softball to Journey Overseas on a European Adventure
June 9, 2017
CHICAGO – DePaul softball will embark Tuesday on a 10-day epic adventure throughout Europe. The Blue Demons will venture to France and Italy, sightseeing while learning about St. Vincent de Paul and competing in an international softball game.
This will be the second time coach Eugene Lenti has taken his team overseas. Lenti and his players traveled to France and the Netherlands in 2013.
For the first three days, DePaul will be in Paris. Father Ed Udovic will take the team to historical places such as the Vincentian Motherhouse, Daughters of Charity Motherhouse and the Church of St. Sulpice as they walk in the footsteps of university namesake St. Vincent de Paul.
A Vincentian priest, Father Udovic has a Ph.D. in church history from the Catholic University of America and has written extensively in the area of Vincentian history, spirituality and leadership. He has organized numerous heritage trips to Vincentian sites throughout France.
On the fourth day, the Blue Demons will travel from Paris to Milan where they will play a doubleheader against a local team and enjoy sightseeing.
The last four days, the team will experience Rome and visit Casa Romane Palazzo Valentini, the remains of an Imperial Roman Domus (house) of a wealthy Roman family, the Ancient Roman Forum and the Colosseum.
The Blue Demons will pay a visit to Vatican City with a guided tour of Vatican museums and the Sistine Chapel on their last full day in Rome before departing for Chicago the next day.
DePaulBlueDemons.com will provide updates on the team’s experiences throughout the trip.
