Former Standout Tarulli-Fisher Joins DePaul Softball Coaching Staff
June 10, 2013
CHICAGO – One of DePaul’s big-time clutch performers as a player has returned to the softball program as an assistant coach.
Jackie Tarulli-Fisher, who finished her four-year career in 2009 tied for fourth all-time in RBIs at DePaul, will rejoin head coach Eugene Lenti in the dugout for the 2013-14 season.
“I was ecstatic when Eug (Lenti) told me the good news,” said Tarulli-Fisher. “It’s an honor to be a part of such a great staff, to coach with Eug after playing for him and to work at such a prestigious university.
“After playing for him and serving as his director of softball operations in 2011, I have a thorough understanding how Eug has been so successful. It’s not about talking to Eug about what he’s doing---it’s knowing why he is doing it.
“Having a good rapport with the head coach and the players will help me to be the middle ground on communicating what Eug wants and in helping the players relate to him.”
Lenti doesn’t hesitate when asked about his favorite Jackie Tarulli-Fisher softball moment.
“She hit one of the most historic, game-changing home runs in DePaul softball history,” Lenti said about his former catcher’s three-run shot at the 2007 NCAA Regional at downstate Carbondale that propelled the Blue Demons past Missouri and into the NCAA Super Regionals. “After that, we swept Oklahoma and advanced to our fourth Women’s College World Series.
“The biggest thing about Jackie as a coach is that she knows what I am looking for and what we are trying to accomplish. She has lived it, understood it and believed in it.
“She brings a wealth of history and knowledge about the program with her. She played at the highest level, got us to the World Series and will hold our players accountable to the same lofty expectations and high standards she strived for as a player.”
Tarulli-Fisher was All-Great Lakes Region First Team in 2009 and was twice selected to the All-BIG EAST Conference Third Team.
She worked in the DePaul Athletic Department’s Development office in 2010 and was the director of softball operations a year later. She spent 2012-13 working in the athletic department’s ticket office.
“I’m looking forward to working with our catchers and also helping with our hitting,” Tarulli-Fisher said. “I’ll use my communication skills to connect with Eug and relate what he wants to the players in a way they can understand.
“Having been around DePaul since 2006, I know how everything goes.”
