Blue Demons Get Their First Taste of Paris
June 14, 2017

PARIS – The Blue Demon softball team arrived in Paris Wednesday on a 10-day European adventure that will take them through France and Italy.

Here is a report on day one from sophomore Erin Andris and Angela Scalzitti along with incoming freshman Kate Polucha.

Bonjour---Kate, Erin and Angela checking in from Paris.

Today was our first official day of walking in St. Vincent de Paul’s footsteps. The minute we hopped off the plane, we got a taste of what Paris has to offer.

After our wonderful bus driver, Joop Timmers, picked us up from the airport, Father Edward Udovic began his tour.

The first stop was the Notre Dame Cathedral, and many of us were in awe of the fine detail that was sculpted on this 17th century landmark.

Next, we made our way to the courtyard of the poor. This was where St. Vincent de Paul and the Daughters of Charity did most of their service work with foundlings---infants who had been abandoned by their parents.

One of the most memorable sites we saw today was the church that Louise de Marillac got married in. The beautiful stained glass was breathtaking. The high ceilings and the original organs provided insight into the rich history within this church.

After Father Ed’s brief tour of these sites, we checked into our hotel and many of us took a much-needed nap. Dinner followed at 7 p.m. sharp. We dined at the A La Petite Chaise, the oldest operating restaurant in Paris that opened in 1610.

Before eating, Father Ed spoke very highly of the French onion soup saying it was the best he has ever had. We put this statement to the test and happily agreed. Our meal overall was “tre magnifique.” It was a great way to end our first day, and we are all excited to see what tomorrow has in store for us.

Au revoir for now,
Angela, Erin, and Kate
