Softball Inks Three Local Talents
CHICAGO- DePaul Head Softball Coach Eugene Lenti announced today the signing of three players to a national letter of intent. DePaul signed three Illinois natives, Katie Hanson from Oregon, Sandy Vojik of Riverside and Marcy Wilus from Lyons.
“This is class that fits all of our needs; we got power, speed and versatility all things that we lost last year,” Head Coach Eugene Lenti said.
Hanson is a middle infielder, comes from Oregon High School. Coach Lenti states that, “Katie will provide the speed needed in the batters box and on the base path. She is a ‘slapper’ who can get on base”
Vojik currently on the roster of Riverside-Brookfield High School comes to DePaul as a utility player. “Sandy is the total package. She can hit, run and throw with the best of the five tool players,” Lenti said.
Wilus a senior at Morton High School in Berwyn, will compete for time on the mound and at first and third base. “Marcy is a true offensive player. She has a great bat and a ton of power. She will be able to make an immediate impact on our offense.
“There was a lot better local talent this year then there has been in along time, “Head Coach Eugene Lenti said. This is the first time since 2001 that a recruiting class came solely from Illinois.
DePaul is coming off a 48-7-1 season that saw the Blue Demons reach the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in the past 10 seasons. DePaul, which finished ninth in the final NFCA/USA Today Top 25 poll, was ranked as high as fourth during the regular season.
