Tennis Finishes Day One of Northwestern Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The No. 35 DePaul women’s tennis team opened the Northwestern Invitational with three doubles wins over pairs from No. 54 Florida International on Friday. Blue Demon head coach Mark Ardizzone moved around his fall lineup and paired Gia McKnight and Katarina Milinkovic together for just the second time this season and it worked out as the duo started DePaul’s day with an 8-6 win over Liset Brito and Rita Maisak. Selma Salkovic and Cali Gustafson followed with a hard-fought 9-8 (4) win over Giuliette Boha and Maria Spenceley while the freshmen tandem of Kelsey Lawson and Christiana Raymond rounded out the day’s victories. Lawson and Raymond topped Christine Seredni and Magali Holt 8-4. The Blue Demons return to the court on Saturday at 2:45 p.m. to tangle with student-athletes from Florida International and UIC. The tournament at the Combe Indoor Tennis Center concludes on Sunday. Northwestern Invitational Friday Results
