Gia McKnight picked-up a hard fought win over LSU's Keri Frankenberger on the final day of the Northwestern Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. – The DePaul women’s tennis team finished the Northwestern Invitational on Sunday with a round of singles and added two victories for a three-day total of 12 wins.

Facing student-athletes from No. 65 LSU all six matches were competitive and three matches went to three sets.  

Blue Demon senior Gia McKnight won her three-set thriller over Keri Frankenberger.  McKnight set the tone of the match by winning the first set 6-2. Frankenberger rebounded with a 6-3 second-set victory which forced a deciding frame.  The final set was one of the most exciting of the day, with McKight and Franenberger trading games and eventuall the set went into tie breaker. McKnight came away victorious with a hard-fought 7-6 (8) win.

Kelsey Lawson picked up her second singles win of the tournament with a straight set win over Rebecca Bodine.  

The Blue Demons return to Evanston on Jan. 20 to host No. 15 Vanderbilt at Northwestern’s Combe Indoor Tennis Center.  DePaul then hosts a doubleheader dual against Cleveland State and Chicago State on Jan. 21 at the Lakeshore Sport and Fitness Club.  The first serve on Saturday goes up at 2 p.m. on the corner of Lakewood and Fullerton.
