EVANSTON, Ill. -- The DePaul women's tennis team wrapped up play on Sunday at the Northwestern Winter Classic in Evanston, Ill.
The Blue Demons posted four wins on Sunday, two in singles play and two in doubles play. Patricia Fargas teammed with Ana Vladutu to beat Northwestern's Belinda Niu and Brooke Rischbieth, 6-4, and Rebeca Mitrea paired up with Zainai Sufi to defeat Manon Peri and Jillian Rooney of Northwestern, 6-2.
Kelsey Lawson topped Nida Hamilton in singles play (6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (7)) while Jasmin Kling defeated Peri in three sets as well, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (6)). Fargas, Vladutu, Sufi, Mitrea and Carolin Neumann each had singles matches on Sunday but all fell to Northwestern opponents.
"It was a great weekend. We got exactly what we needed, great matches against really good teams," said head coach Mark Ardizzone. "Our doubles play improved each day; I really liked how our only senior [Lawson] stepped up her game and led by example all weekend. This weekend really helped us get ready for two more great teams in the kick-off weekend ahead."
The Northwestern Winter Classic was DePaul's final tune-up before the dual match season. The Blue Demons open up match play on Saturday (Jan. 25) against San Jose State. The match will be played in College Station, Texas, at 10 a.m.
