EVANSTON, Ill. - Playing against its third ranked team of the young spring season, the DePaul women's tennis team gave No. 15 Vanderbilt everything it had, but the Commodores strength proved to be too much.  Vandy topped the Blue Demons 6-1 on Friday at Northwestern's Combe Indoor Tennis Center.

The Commodores swept the doubles matches with three 8-3 victories.  Moving into singles, the young Blue Demon squad was fearless as three players all won their first set.

Freshman Rebeca Mitrea started her match with a 6-4 win in the No. 5 spot.  Mitrea and Nelly Radeva traded games in the second set, but the Commodore narrowly won, 7-6.  In the tiebreaker, Mitrea was determined not to let her team down and picked-up her team-best 11th win of the season with a 10-3 tiebreak score.

Playing in the second position, Jasmin Kling won her first set 6-3 over No. 69 Lauren Mira.  The Blue Demon newcomer dropped the second set before falling 10-7 in a hard-fought tiebreaker.  Kelsey Lawson also won her first set, topping Alex Leatu 6-1.  Leatu bounced back and won the second set 6-3 and edged Lawson in the tiebreaker 10-7.

The Blue Demons return to the courts on Saturday and host Cleveland State and Chicago State.  The first serve on Saturday is scheduled for 2 p.m.
