Blue Demons Fall to VCU in ITA Kick-Off Opener

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The doubles duo of Ana Vladutu and Patricia Fargas were winners at first singles, 8-7, but the No. 65 DePaul women's tennis team fell 4-0 against No. 46 VCU on Saturday in the opening round of the 2013 ITA Kick-Off.

The Rams improved to 5-0 on the spring, while the Blue Demons took their first team loss of the new year and moved to 0-1 on the spring season.

Vladutu and Fargas moved to 1-1 as a doubles pair after playing together for the first time last weekend at the Purdue Invitational. Individually, Fargas improved to 5-4 in doubles play while Vladutu went to 7-5.

In singles play, 119th-ranked Jarret Fisher nearly completed a comeback win against Olga Barscheuskaya at the fifth spot before the match was called with Fisher leading 5-3 in the deciding third set (1-6, 6-3, 5-3).

DePaul and Auburn will now meet tomorrow after the Tigers dropped their afternoon match 4-0 against No. 8 UNC. First serve is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
