DePaul Sweeps UIC To Complete Perfect Weekend

CHICAGO -- The DePaul women's tennis team swept visiting UIC on Sunday afternoon to complete a perfect 3-0 weekend and improve to 4-1 overall.
The No. 74 Blue Demons won all nine matches played against the Flames (1-3).
"I'm really proud of the girs' effort this weekend," head coach Mark Ardizzone said. "To go 3-0 and only drop one point all weekend was a great effort."
Patricia Fargas and Ana Vladutu started the day off with a 6-0 doubles victory in the No. 1 match over Natalia Kuvakina and Kathryn Sharples and then Rebeca Mitrea and Zaina Sufi sealed the doubles point in the No. 3 match with a 6-0 triumph over Keti Mebuke and Veronica Lacerda. Jasmin Kling and Kelsey Lawson won their No. 2 match, 6-1, over Jana Knoppe and Ann-Sophie Hahn.
In singles play, Fargas beat Kuvakina (6-4, 6-2) in the No. 1 match, Vladutu topped Sharples (6-4, 6-3) in the No. 2 slot, Lawson defeated Hahn, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3, Kling knocked off Knoppe (6-4, 6-2) in the No. 4 position and Sufi (No. 5) and Mitrea (No. 6) both came away with 6-1, 6-2 victories.
"We just have to focus on getting better and better," Ardizzone said. "We have tough matches on the road ahead and they will be great tests to see where we are."
DePaul's next matches come in Iowa City, Iowa, on Feb. 8-9. The Blue Demons take on No. 72 Oregon on the 8th and play the following day against Iowa.
