No. 71 DePaul Women's Tennis Takes Third Straight, Beats EMU 6-1

CHICAGO - The No. 71 DePaul women's tennis team capped an undefeated weekend, winning its third straight match, 6-1, over visiting Eastern Michigan on Sunday at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness. The Blue Demons move to 3-2 with the win, while EMU dropped to 3-5 overall in dual match play. For DePaul, it was a third straight win and wrapped up a dominant weekend in which the team dropped just one point over three matches. It was an 8-0 weekend at doubles, as DePaul swept the point to get out to a 1-0 lead early in the match. Ana Vladutu and Patricia Fargas grabbed a win at the top spot over Nino Mebuke and Klara Supejova, 8-4. The tandem of Matea Cutura and Kelsey Lawson followed with an 8-2 decision in the two hole, defeating Daphne Friedrichs and Mariya Toncheva, 8-2. Zaina Sufi and Jarret Fisher then completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory against Ankita Bhatia and Zsofia Biro. In singles play, Cutura kept things rolling with a breezy 6-1, 6-2 result against Mebuke. DePaul received its next point from the three position, where Vladutu took care of Friedrichs by a score of 6-4, 6-2. At the four, Lawson was also a winner, 6-2, 6-1, beating Toncheya and improving to 4-0 in dual match play. Fisher was a winner at the fifth position, ripping off a perfect set in the first en route to a 6-0, 6-3 win. Sufi then provided DePaul's final point, dropping Biro 6-4, 6-0. The Blue Demons will remain home next weekend, playing Utah on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. CT.
