Streaking Blue Demons Net Sixth Straight, Defeat Marquette 6-1

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - No. 71 DePaul picked up an impressive road win, extending its current winning streak to six straight with a 6-1 decision over BIG EAST rival Marquette on Friday at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
DePaul moves to 6-2 overall with win, beginning the afternoon by taking the doubles point for a fifth consecutive outing. The loss snapped a five-match win streak for hosting Marquette, which dropped to 6-3 overall.
It was DePaul's fifth straight win in the series going back to the 2008 season.
The Blue Demons got on the board early, winning the doubles point with back-to-back 8-4 wins at the second and first positions.
Sophomore Patricia Fargas and freshman Ana Vladutu followed by clinching the pairs point at the top spot with a victory against Rocio Diaz and Ali Dawson. The freshman tandem of Zaina Sufi and Jarret Fisher then made it a clean sweep in a tie-breaker, 8-7 (7-2), defeating Aina Hernandez Soler and Aleeza Kanner.
In singles play, Vladutu made it 2-0 DePaul by making quick work of Dawson, 6-0, 6-1, at third singles. Vladutu has now won five of her past six singles matches and remains tied for the team lead in overall solo wins (17-7).
Cutura finished next, taking down Pimienta by an identical score and moving to 16-4 overall - including a 6-2 mark at the number one position.
With the score 3-0, Sufi clinched the match for DePaul bringing home a win at the six spot, 6-1, 6-2, over Kanner.
Fargas followed with another straight set victory, defeating Diaz 6-1, 6-2 at second singles before Fisher earned the Blue Demons' sixth and final point at the five with a dramatic tie-break win over Hernandez Soler, 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-5).
DePaul returns to the courts on Sunday, facing Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. First serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT.
