Women's Tennis Wins First Match Of Saturday Doubleheader

CHICAGO -- The DePaul women's tennis team earned its sixth straight victory by virtue of a 6-1 win over visiting South Dakota State on Saturday afternoon.
The win improved DePaul's overall record to 7-1, while South Dakota State dropped to 3-2. The match marked the first of two for the Blue Demons, who will face Milwaukee on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
DePaul grabbed a 1-0 lead in the contest courtesy of three wins in doubles play. Jasmin Kling and Kelsey Lawson improved to 4-3 in dual play thanks to an 8-0 win over Ffion Davies and Jenny Blackburne in the No. 1 match. Zaina Sufi and Jarret Fisher topped Tacy Haws-Lay and Beatriz Souza, 8-0, in the No. 3 slot while Patricia Fargas and Rebeca Mitrea took care of business in the No. 2 match with an 8-1 victory over Iasmin Rosa and Florencia Magni.
In singles play, DePaul took 5-of-6 matches to seal the 6-1 victory. Kling started things off with a clean sweep (6-0, 6-0) over Davies in the No. 2 match and Sufi moved her dual record to 7-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Blackburne in the No. 4 match. Fargas won at No. 1 singles, beating Magni (6-2, 6-0) to put DePaul up 4-0 and Lawson and Mitrea posted the Blue Demons' final two wins of the match in the No. 3 and No. 5 positions, respectfully.
The No. 53 Blue Demons will look to move their overall record to 8-1 tonight when they host Milwaukee at 6 p.m.
