Blue Demons Sweep Milwaukee to Improve to 8-1

CHICAGO -- Just hours after defeating South Dakota State to start the day, the No. 53 DePaul women's tennis team defeated visiting Milwaukee, 7-0, to cap a 2-0 day and improve to 8-1 overall.
For the Blue Demons, the victory over Milwaukee (1-4) was their seventh consecutive win.
DePaul did not lose a match the entire evening. The Blue Demons swept doubles play thanks to a win in the No. 1 spot by Patricia Fargas and Ana Vladutu (8-0 over Christina Colarossi and Diana Tokar), an 8-2 win by Jasmin Kling and Kelsey Lawson over Hayley Marshall and Alysa Straub in the No. 2 match and an 8-2 victory by Zaina Sufi and Jarret Fisher over Dana Shannon and Aerielle Pendleton in the No. 3 slot.
In singles play, Lawson gave the Blue Demons a 2-0 lead by defeating Pendleton in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) and Kling pushed the lead to 3-0 by virtue of a 6-0, 6-1 triump over Chelsea Bailey in the No. 3 match. Then, Fargas sealed the Blue Demons' eighth win to start the campaign with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Tokar in No. 1 singles.
Later, Sufi topped Shannon in the No. 5 match (6-3, 6-2), Rebeca Mitrea beat Straub in the No. 6 position, 6-2, 6-2, and Vladutu capped the night with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Marshall in the No. 2 match.
DePaul's 8-1 start is its best since the 2011-12 season. The Blue Demons will look to move to 9-1 tomorrow afternoon when they take on Michigan State (7-1) at home at 1 p.m.
