CHICAGO - A succesful road weekend came to a close as No. 71 DePaul women's tennis wrapped up back-to-back wins away from Lincoln Park with a 6-1 decision, defeating Michigan State on Sunday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.

The streaking Blue Demons have now won seven straight during their current run. It is the longest winning streak for DePaul since last year's squad went on an eight-game tear from January 21-Feb. 17.

The final score was an identical one from Friday - when the Blue Demons defeated BIG EAST rival Marquette to open the weekend - for DePaul, which improved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in road matches. Michigan State dropped to 7-2 with the setback, completing a season-opening nine match home stand.

For the sixth consecutive match, DePaul opened up an early advantage by taking the doubles point.

Junior Kelsey Lawson and freshman Matea Cutura continued their success at second doubles, winning their seventh straight match as partners (7-0) with an 8-0 victory over Nicole Herzog and Michaela Silesova. At third doubles, freshmen Zaina Sufi and Jarret Fisher also moved to 7-0 as a duo by grabbing an 8-4 win against Emily Meyers and Julianne Gruber.

Leading 1-0, Fisher followed her doubles win with DePaul's first singles point - a 6-1, 6-2 straight set triumph against Meyers - as the first-year player improved to 18-3 overall.

Lawson brought back the Blue Demons' next point, finishing off Herzog at the fourth position in a clean 6-2, 6-0 win that saw the team captain improve to 7-1 overall in dual match play.

Freshman Ana Vladutu then clinched the match with a breezy 6-2, 6-1 decision at the three, defeating Olga Chernova and improving to 18-7 overall in her first season of collegiate tennis.

DePaul would finish the afternoon with two more singles wins at second and sixth singles.

At the two, sophomore Patricia Fargas out-dueled MSU's Catherine Parenteau 6-4, 6-1 before Sufi won for the sixth time in her past seven matches, pulling out a 6-3, 6-3 win against Katarina Lingl to close out the Spartans.

DePaul will return to the courts next weekend, beginning a busy home weekend with a pair of Saturday contests against IPFW and Western Illinois. The Blue Demons' first match, against the Mastodons, is set for a 2:00 p.m. CT start.
