CHICAGO – No. 69 DePaul women’s tennis swept the day on a special Saturday, improving its win streak to nine by running off back-to-back 7-0 wins against visiting IPFW and Western Illinois at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.

The Blue Demons (9-2) began the day honoring two former players affected by breast cancer – Natalie Matko and Amy Slavicek-Untch – in front of a packed house in the early match.

Clad in pink shirts bearing Matko’s name, DePaul opened up with three straight doubles wins against the Mastodons (6-6) before taking all six singles matches in straight sets. It was a similar story against Western Illinois (0-5) as the Blue Demons played inspired tennis all day.

First pair Kelsey Lawson and Matea Cutura remained undefeated (9-0) together with an 8-4 victory over Anita Henestrosa and Caterina Kiefer in the early match. The duo then blanked Yessenia Mejia and Holly Conlon of Western Illinois, 8-0.

At second doubles, Ana Vladutu and Patricia Fargas improved to 6-3 as a unit with an 8-3 win in the early match. The freshman tandem of Zaina Sufi and Jarret Fisher also stayed unbeaten at 8-0 with an 8-2 win against IPFW.

In singles play, junior Kelsey Lawson grabbed two wins to improve to 10-1 in dual play as the Blue Demons cruised through both matches without dropping a set.

Sophomore Carolin Neumann also returned from an injury against Western Illinois to make her first appearance of the dual season, winning at sixth singles in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) to improve to 5-2 overall.

DePaul will be back on the courts tomorrow with a BIG EAST opponent, Syracuse, coming to town for a 1:00 p.m. CT match at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
