CHICAGO - No. 69 DePaul women's tennis saw its nine-match winning streak snapped in a brutally close 4-3 match against BIG EAST foe Syracuse on Sunday afternoon at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.

With the loss, the Blue Demons dropped to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST competition. Syracuse went to 5-6 and 2-1 in league play.

DePaul began the day with a win at third doubles, 8-4, put together by the freshman tandem of Jarret Fisher and Zaina Sufi before dropping the next two contests to give away the doubles point.

The Blue Demons battled back in singles play, however, taking matches on courts one, four and five to take a 3-1 lead in the match.

At the top spot, freshman Matea Cutura snagged her second singles win of the weekend in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, over Syracuse's Maddie Kobelt.

Junior Kelsey Lawson finished next at the four to cap a 3-0 singles weekend with a 6-4, 6-4 decision against Komal Safdar.

Fisher's win at the fifth position pushed the Orange to the brink of defeat as the freshman capped a 3-0 weekend herself with a 6-4, 7-5 win versus Brittany Lashway. With the perfect weekend record, Fisher ran her overall tally to an impressive 21-4.

The match-clinching point would prove elusive for the Blue Demons, though, as Syracuse got a straight set win at the six before taking two excruciatingly close matches at third and second singles to complete the comeback.

A court two match with three tie-breakers would be the final point for Syracuse as Patricia Fargas fell in a marathon with Amanda Rodgers, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-4).

DePaul's home setback was the first of the year as the Blue Demons cap their home schedule with a 6-1 ledger.

Next up will be the first of nine straight competitions on the road, beginning with a meeting with Notre Dame on Saturday, March 2. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT.
