Win Streak Hits 12 As DePaul Tops Northern Illinois, 7-0

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The No. 37 DePaul women's tennis team extended its winning streak to 12 matches thanks to a 7-0 thumping of Northern Illinois on Friday afternoon.
The Blue Demons improved to 13-1 with the win, while Northern Illinois fell to 4-2.
DePaul opened the day with three doubles victories to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Patricia Fargas and Ana Vladutu beat Nelle Youel and Arantza De La Torre in the No. 1 match, 8-1, and Jasmin Kling and Kelsey Lawson, the nation's 59th-ranked doubles pair, topped Stephanie McDonald and Haley Dekkinga in the No. 2 match by the same score. Zaina Sufi and Rebeca Mitrea took care of Maria Rozo and Mary Malkin in the No. 3 slot, 8-4.
In singles play, Mitrea pushed the DePaul lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Rozo in the No. 6 match, her 12th consecutive singles victory. Then, Kling picked up her 11th straight win in the No. 3 match by virtue of a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over De La Torre. Zaina Sufi clinched the match in the No. 5 spot by topping Cristina Alvarez, 6-1, 6-1. Sufi has won 13 straight and is 23-5 overall.
In the final three matches of the day, Vladutu beat Dekkinga (6-3, 6-2) in the No. 2 match, Lawson defeated Malkin (6-4, 6-1) in the No. 4 position and Fargas secured DePaul's sixth consecutive shutout with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Youel in the No. 1 match.
The Blue Demons hit the court again tomorrow in Madison, Wis., where they will face the University of Wisconsin at Noon.
