March 3, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - No. 66 DePaul got three singles wins from the top of its lineup, but could not grab a fourth point in a close loss, 4-3, to Indiana on Sunday at the IU Tennis Center.
With the loss, DePaul drops to 9-5 overall. Indiana improves to 9-3.
Cutura, ranked 85th in the latest ITA poll, went to 2-0 on the weekend with a 7-5, 7-5 straight set victory against IU's Leslie Horeau.
At the two spot, Fargas went to a tiebreaker with Katie Klyzcek but brought home the point with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) result.
Freshman Ana Vladutu provided DePaul's third win from the third position in the order, prevailing 6-4, 6-1 over Alecia Kauss.
In doubles play, DePaul received a dominant effort on court two where Fargas and junior Kelsey Lawson teamed up for an 8-0 win over Klyzcek and Carolyn Chupa. Back-to-back losses at the one and three, however, locked up the point for IU.
The Hoosiers built their lead to 3-0 with wins at the fifth and fourth positions to start singles play before Vladutu made it 3-1 with her straight set win. The match was then clinched at sixth singles followed by DePaul's wins at the top two spots to close out the afternoon.
The Blue Demons stay on the road next weekend, travelling east to face a pair of Ivy League opponents in Princeton and Yale. DePaul faces Princeton first on Friday, March 8 at 4:00 p.m. CT.
