Short-Handed DePaul Falls at Charleston Southern
April 13, 2018

CHARLESTON, S.C. – If it’s not one thing, it is something else for the short-handed DePaul women’s tennis team in this hard-luck season.

Already missing two players because of injuries, the Blue Demons were down to four healthy bodies Friday after current No. 1 singles standout Patricia Lancranjan was sidelined by illness.

That resulted in a 5-2 nonconference loss to Charleston Southern at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.

DePaul (6-9) had to forfeit two singles matches and one doubles match. The Blue Demons’ deficit before the first serve was roughly equivalent to starting out a basketball game trailing 30-0.

Coach Mark Ardizzone’s team split their doubles matches with freshmen Alina Kuzmenkova and Marija Jovicic prevailing over the Bucs’ tandem 6-2. Having to forfeit at No. 3 doubles cost DePaul the doubles point.

Jovicic came through at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Valeria Koussenkova. Her doubles partner prevailed 6-2, 6-7, 10-5 over Filippa Ericson at the No. 3 spot.

The Blue Demons are back on the court in less than 24 hours with a 9 a.m. nonconference match Saturday at Coastal Carolina (15-6) in Conway, S.C.
